Day 3

We all woke up around 10am and wandered to a nearby cafe/bar for some breakfast.

Sat outside for a while until we finally realized they weren't going to come out and serve us, we had to order at the bar.

Steven and Chris went inside to order, and had the following exchange:

Bartender: "It's Sunday."
Boys: "Well, yes, it is.  And?"
Bartender: "We only serve sandwiches on Sunday."

Everyone looked at the menu again and came up with a sandwich they wanted.  Chris and Steven went back inside.

Bartender: (Giving them a look as if they're quite slow) "It's Sunday.  We don't serve sandwiches!"
Boys: (Blank stares)
Bartender: "We aren't allowed to make them on Sundays."

After yet another look at the menu, we finally ordered our food (not sandwiches).  The weather was beautiful and sunny, perfect for sitting outside.

We finished our meal and wandered through the city.  At the train station, we got on a tour bus of Old Town and New Town.  Back at the train station, we stopped at the Balomar hotel bar where we had snacks (a cheese plate) and some drinks.  Then we went on a different bus tour to see the wharf and other parts of Edinburgh.

It sprinkled for a bit then stopped.  We wandered back up the Royal Mile and Chris and I ordered kilts.  Stopped at Inn on the mile for some drinks.

After a brief rest at the hotel, we attended the Mary King's Close tour at 8:45.  At the end of the tour, we headed down to the Grassmarket area to try and find a restaurant still serving food.

We ended up on a street full of twenty-somethings, clubs, loud music, and hostels, but the restaurant was nice.  It was recommended by a police officer we talked to once we realized everything on Grassmarket was closed.  Our post-dinner drinks were had at an outdoor patio bar playing 80's rap and 90's disco with hidden bathrooms, a pull-up bar, and a bachelorette party with inappropriate balloons.

Caught a cab back to the hotel where Robin went to bed and Chris, Steven, and I went in search of a bar.  I found an underground bar almost hidden off a side street.  There was a live band playing a mix of local of American favorites, including a soccer fight song about unacceptable ginger "things."

There were two men wearing full dress kilts and a breathalyzer that cost 1 pound to operate.  Made some friends (from whom we borrowed pounds to operate the breathalyzer machine), Steven accidentally spilled his beer on them, and we called it a night.
